Rising steeply from the River Mondego, Coimbra is one of Portugal’s most picturesque cities. Known as the City of Knowledge, it is home to the country’s oldest university — a UNESCO World Heritage Site where medieval faculties and student quarters shape an atmospheric old town steeped in collegiate history and further garlanded by a Romanesque cathedral. Explore the historic heart of Coimbra with a stroll through the streets of the upper town. Your local guide is a former student of the University of Coimbra, the oldest institution in the country, who provides insight into the history of the town’s most important buildings and longstanding student traditions that still shape Coimbra culture. 6 Porto – Serra Do Bussaco And Aveiro
En route to Porto, visit the ancient forest of Serra do Bussaco, a spiritual escape first settled by Benedictine monks in the sixth century. Explore the monastery built by the Carmelites and stroll through the verdant mix of trees and ferns, before continuing on to stroll the quaint streets of Aveiro, also known as the “Venice of Portugal” for its maze of canals.

7 Porto – Belle Of The Riverfront
At once moody and magnificent, Porto is a city of brutish good looks, set on the steep terraced banks of the Douro River. There are soaring bell towers, tiled train stations and baroque churches with gleaming gilded interiors that sparkle like the surface of the Douro. Explore the Cais da Ribeira, the quayside of the fascinating Ribeira district, as well as the opulent 19th-century Stock Exchange and Gothic Sao Francisco Church. This Wine Estate is mentioned for the first time in a document dated April 1738, where it is referred to as "the Pacheca" because it was owned by D. Mariana Pacheco Pereira. However, it was only in 1903 that Dom José Freire de Serpa Pimentel decided to develop his interest in oenology, bought the property and began to devote to the winemaking business.
You will be warmly received by the owner of the estate. Enjoy a private tour through the cellars, followed by lectured wine tasting. This wine estate is located in the surroundings of Aldeia Galega and it spreads over the sunny hills’ of Alenquer, a Delimited Region in the northwest of Lisboa. Its historical and excellent vineyards are known since the 16th century and have belonged to Diogo Duff, a brave Scottish man who received the "Tower and Sword" insignia, given by King João VI. Alice and Paulo Tavares da Silva bought the estate in the 1980s and made significant investments in its 45ha of vineyard. The introduction of new cultivation methods has allowed the family to consolidate the quality and reputation of their wines.
In an accompanied visit, you can get to know the wine making technology and methods used in the Quinta to produce their elegant wines, learning every step of the wine process. After understand how the wines are produced, see for yourself how they are stored during the ageing process that gives them some of their most typical characteristic. Follows a private and lectured wine tasting, lectured by the responsible for the oenology department, Sandra Tavares da Silva, the daughter of the owners, or by the resident oenologist, so you can confirm the high quality of their product. The family will invite you for lunch at their house.
Sandra is making wines in both Estremadura and the Douro, which necessitates travelling between the two regions three times a week. Since then her day job has been as winemaker for Christiano Van Zeller at Quinta do Vale D. Maria in the Douro. In 2000 she began making wines from her parents Estremadura estate, at the Quinta you will visit. With their depth of fruit and fine structure these have rapidly established a reputation as being among the best of the appellation.

This estate belongs to the Álvares Pereira de Melo family for almost four centuries. In this House lived during over a year the Queen Leonor, third wife of King Manuel I, sister of the Emperor D. Carlos V and mother of Infanta Dona Maria.
Upon arrival at the estate, you will be welcomed by the master rider at the Riding Hall and you will have the opportunity to ride a Lusitano Stallion for a classical dressage lesson.
After this unforgettable experience, you will have time to taste their wines from the different varietals (Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Pinot Noir) as well as selected blends such as Padre Pedro, Herdade de Muge and Marquees of Cadaval. The house oenologist will lecture you on the “secret” flavours while you taste.

The Jewish quarter, an area was once inhabited by traders, artists and scientists, was in the centre of the town, close to the Rua Direita and the beautiful 16th century Renaissance church of Santa Maria, where it is possible to appreciate the paintings of Josefa d'Obidos, one of the most important 17th century Portuguese artists.
Since it was the property of the queens of Portugal, Obidos always enjoyed special protection from the royal court and at one time had a school of arts and sciences. The effects of all this culture are clearly evident in its artistic heritage, in particular the Manueline palace that was built inside the castle walls (now converted into the Obidos Pousada).
