Art and Architecture in Barcelona (8 hours)

Highlights:
An architectural delight awaits you today in Barcelona, one of the most exciting cities in Europe.  Receive a warm greeting at the port by your private guide and driver and commence your full-day tour with a visit to Gaudi's masterpiece, the impressive, but unfinished Sagrada Familia.  Although work started on this project in 1882, this iconic church is not expected to be complete until 2028! 

Next, visit Parc Guell, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of Catalan architect Antoni Gaudi's most colourful creations.  Continue along Passeig de Gracia, to view Gaudi's Casa Batlló and Casa Mila from the outside, with its brilliant wave-like façade.

After lunch, lose yourself in the narrow streets of the true heart of the city - the medieval Gothic Quarter.  Here you will visit the magnificent 13th-century Cathedral, and the Picasso Museum, where some of the painter's earliest works are housed. It was the capital of the country from 1139 to 1256 and its university was founded in 1290. Surrounding it in the old town are fine old churches and narrow streets standing on a hill overlooking the Modego River.

However, it is not only this fact that makes it such an extraordinarily romantic place - which makes it one of the most romantic medieval towns in Europe are its incredibly picturesque cobbled streets lined with colorful houses full of geraniums and bougainvillea, Gothic doors and windows, whitewashed churches, pots and glazed tiles all surrounded by the walls of a 12th century castle.

Alenquer for Wine Lovers & Óbidos (6 - 8 Hours)

Today, meet your private chauffeur at the dock and hit the road towards Alenquer, for an exclusive treat at selected wine Estate, a wonderful and enchanting property for its buildings architecture and for its beautiful vineyards.
 
This wine estate is located in the surroundings of Aldeia Galega and it spreads over the sunny hills’ of Alenquer, a Delimited Region in the northwest of Lisboa. Its historical and excellent vineyards are known since the 16th century and have belonged to Diogo Duff, a brave Scottish man who received the "Tower and Sword" insignia, given by King João VI. Alice and Paulo Tavares da Silva bought the estate in the 1980s and made significant investments in its 45ha of vineyard. The introduction of new cultivation methods has allowed the family to consolidate the quality and reputation of their wines.
 
In an accompanied visit, you can get to know the wine making technology and methods used in the Quinta to produce their elegant wines, learning every step of the wine process. After understand how the wines are produced, see for yourself how they are stored during the ageing process that gives them some of their most typical characteristic. Follows a private and lectured wine tasting, lectured by the responsible for the oenology department, Sandra Tavares da Silva, the daughter of the owners, or by the resident oenologist, so you can confirm the high quality of their product. The family will invite you for lunch at their house.
 
Sandra is making wines in both Estremadura and the Douro, which necessitates travelling between the two regions three times a week. Since then her day job has been as winemaker for Christiano Van Zeller at Quinta do Vale D. Maria in the Douro. In 2000 she began making wines from her parents Estremadura estate, at the Quinta you will visit. With their depth of fruit and fine structure these have rapidly established a reputation as being among the best of the appellation.

Dressage Experience, Wine & Lunch with the Countess (6 - 8 Hours)

Your day begins when you are collected at the port by your chauffeured luxury vehicle. Drive direction to Muge in order to visit a magnificent Horse & Wine Estate.
 
This estate belongs to the Álvares Pereira de Melo family for almost four centuries. In this House lived during over a year the Queen Leonor, third wife of King Manuel I, sister of the Emperor D. Carlos V and mother of Infanta Dona Maria.
 
Upon arrival at the estate, you will be welcomed by the master rider at the Riding Hall and you will have the opportunity to ride a Lusitano Stallion for a classical dressage lesson.
 
After this unforgettable experience, you will have time to taste their wines from the different varietals (Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Pinot Noir) as well as selected blends such as Padre Pedro, Herdade de Muge and Marquees of Cadaval. The house oenologist will lecture you on the “secret” flavours while you taste.
 
Then, you will be invited by the owner (Countess Teresa Álvares Pereira Schönborn-Wiesentheid) of the Domain, to have lunch at the Palace. *Subject to availability
 
After lunch, a cart pulled by two noble studs, expects you to explore this very unique farm, going through the vineyards, natural reserve where you will meet the mares and foals. The Jewish quarter, an area was once inhabited by traders, artists and scientists, was in the centre of the town, close to the Rua Direita and the beautiful 16th century Renaissance church of Santa Maria, where it is possible to appreciate the paintings of Josefa d'Obidos, one of the most important 17th century Portuguese artists.
 
Since it was the property of the queens of Portugal, Obidos always enjoyed special protection from the royal court and at one time had a school of arts and sciences. The effects of all this culture are clearly evident in its artistic heritage, in particular the Manueline palace that was built inside the castle walls (now converted into the Obidos Pousada).

Your journey continues to Monsaraz. Lunch will be served (not included) at a former olive oil factory converted in a local restaurant with industrial archeology. Even the olive oil presses reveal themselves as picture frames, one freshly finished while the next waits empty, until others come to paint them in, so that diners can glance over to find their senses aroused right up to the last mouthful.
 
Time to explore, on your own, the medieval town of Monsaraz village. It is a truly unique place where one can find all the peace and tranquility that have been forgotten by the modern era.
 
Stop at a local store dating back 1830 with the regional blankets and tapestry is highly recommended. It’s a small shop that sells colorful refined blankets and shawls woven according to local traditions and which are sold internationally at KENZO Home, after the company’s founder Kenzo Takada visited the 19th century factory himself.
 
Your journey continues to Reguengos in order to visit a worldwide famous selected wine estate.
 
The origins of this estate and its winemaking activities, date back to the prehistoric times of the megalithic cultures and the Bronze Age. Already during the Roman occupation, the wines of the settlement were exported to the whole Empire. The boundaries of the estate were established in 1267 and have remained practically unaltered since then.
 
Enjoy a private visit to wine cellars, lectured wine tasting and lunch (pre-set menu with wines). Afterwards, savor the local cuisine and the local olive oils and cheeses, paired with their best wines, in scenery of tranquility, spotted by the greenery of the cork-oaks and olive trees.

Estremoz has a rich cultural heritage, in which clearly the major feature is the castle with its medieval walls and the former thirteenth-century citadel, which now houses a Pousada.
 
Upon arrival, enjoy a private visit to an 18th century wine estate, nowadays considered a landmark, not only for its beauty but also for its history and quality of its wines, referred by Wine Spectator. An Exploration of Lisbon (8 hours)
