Pantanal North
Declared by UNESCO as a World Biosphere Reserve, the Pantanal is the world's largest wetland area with an area of approximately 200,000 square kilometers. It encompasses a variety of landscapes including rolling hills, lakes, rivers and grassy savannahs. This region is flooded during the rainy season (November through April) and a result there remain only a few islands where you find isolated Fazendas (farms) and Pousadas (lodges). Its biodiversity is so enormous that the Pantanal is considered to have the largest concentration of fauna in the Americas. Alligators, capybaras, Brazilian otters, monkeys, deer, anteaters, blue macaws, herons, cormorants, ibises, curassows, parakeets, parrots, toucans, and wood ibises are an integral part of the Pantanal landscape. You can take excursions on horseback, by boat, or on foot to observe the exuberant wildlife of the Pantanal.
