Day 1: Welcome to Cape Town
Cape Town, often referred to as the Mother City, is South Africa's dynamic and multifaceted capital, offering a unique blend of natural beauty, rich history, and vibrant culture. Nestled between the iconic Table Mountain and the glistening Atlantic Ocean, this city is a hub of diverse experiences and breathtaking landscapes. We've arranged to greet you as you arrive from your flight and assist you to your transfer to your choice of luxury hotels.
Day 2: Explore Cape Town with your private guide
The revolving cable car that takes you up Table Mountain promises thrilling views matched only by the vistas from the top. Back in the city, continue with your personal guide through the colorful Cape Malay Quarter to the Company Gardens for a walking tour; see the Houses of Parliament, National Gallery and St. George's Cathedral. Stroll among the market stalls of Greenmarket Square and peruse the collection of Old Cape paintings in the Castle. Take in the Grand Parade where Nelson Mandela addressed the nation upon his release in 1990 and learn more about the Apartheid era at the District Six Museum. After lunch, cross the harbor to Robben Island. Though best known throughout 450 years of history as an infamous prison for convicts, slaves, exiled princes and lepers, the island itself is remarkably beautiful. It's home to a variety of wildlife including springbok, eland and penguins, and from the rocky shoreline, you'll have a fine view of Cape Town and its dramatic setting between the sea and Table Mountain. Of course, the buildings of Robben Island bear witness to its very somber history. Exploring the prison compound with one of the island's guides, some of whom were once inmates themselves, you'll hear tragic yet inspiring stories of the political prisoners who were incarcerated here during the long years of Apartheid. You'll see the Prison Block where Nelson Mandela was held and see the infamous limestone quarry where these political prisoners were once forced to toil. This evening is yours to enjoy and dine as you wish. Meals B+L
Day 3: Choose your exploration with your private guide
You'll be tempted to add more nights as there's so much to do in Cape Town. Today choose from one of our included experiences: Full day Cape Peninsula excursionAn unforgettable morning unfolds as you leave the city behind to explore the wild coastal beauty of the Cape Peninsula with your personal car and guide. Travel along the Atlantic seaboard through the pleasant coastal suburbs of Sea Point, Bantry Bay and Clifton. Next up, the journey along Chapman's Peak 2,000 feet above the ocean is considered by many to be one of the most spectacular coastal drives in the world! As you continue along the rocky shoreline, note the distinctive Fynbos vegetation; this unique eco-system is home to myriad bird species like African black oystercatchers and Cape sugarbirds. Enter the Cape of Good Hope National Park and be on the lookout for native animals including zebra, bontebok, ostrich and inquisitive baboons. Reaching the iconic Cape Point Lighthouse, you'll ascend by funicular to take in the captivating views of False Bay. Enjoy the return ride in the funicular or make the descent by foot; along the way, there are several lookouts with breathtaking views of the wild coastline! After lunch, visit Boulders Beach for an up-close encounter with African penguins. The return journey up the Peninsula takes you through the charming naval village of Simon's Town and along the lovely fishing harbor at Kalk Bay. Cap off this delightful day with a stroll through the Kirstenbosch Botanical Gardens and then return to Cape Town. Your evening is free. Before saying good-bye for the day, our resident guide can make personal dining recommendations for this evening. Full day Winelands excursionAfter breakfast, set out with your personal car and guide to experience the beauty and the bounty of South Africa's esteemed wine country. With just you and your traveling party, today's guided exploration will be flexible and can be tailored to your personal tastes. The charming vineyard villages of the Cape Winelands boast splendidly preserved Cape Dutch, Georgian and Victorian architecture and the entire region is encircled by mountains. Based upon your preferences you'll spend the day exploring some of these villages - maybe Stellenbosch, the country's second oldest city, or Franschhoek, settled by French Huguenots in 1688. You'll also be able to visit picturesque vineyard estates and tour award-winning wine cellars. Along the way, of course, you'll have a chance to sample fine red and white South African wines as well as Cap Classiques - South Africa's answer to Champagne. History buffs will certainly want to include Boschendal, an historic estate with fine Cape Dutch buildings and priceless period furnishings. This full-day excursion includes lunch at one of the award-winning restaurants here in a region that's as famous for its cuisine as its wines. At the end of the day, you'll be taken back to your luxury hotel for a free evening and a chance to dine as you wish. Your guide will be happy to make recommendations. Meals B+L
