Abercrombie & Kent: Tailor Made Wyoming: Winter Wildlife Safari
Day 1 Bozeman, Montana
Arrive in Bozeman, Montana, where you meet your private driver-guide. En route to your accommodations at Sage Lodge, time permitting, stop at the Museum of the Rockies, with its outstanding collection of dinosaur fossils, many collected in Montana and the surrounding area. Arrive at the lodge by mid-to-late afternoon.
After breakfast, explore the Mammoth Hot Springs near the north entrance of Yellowstone with your private guide. Then, have lunch with one of the park’s wolf biologists who describes the mid-1990s re-introduction of wolves to Yellowstone, their successful growth in the park and surrounding areas, and issues regarding their conservation. In the afternoon, snowshoe or cross-country ski near the north entrance of Yellowstone before returning to the lodge.
Depart early each morning with your driver-guide to explore the Lamar Valley Road in north Yellowstone. Search for some of the nearly 100 wolves believed to reside within the park’s boundaries, as well as elk, bison and other species. Eat a gourmet picnic lunch before returning to the lodge. Enjoy a leisurely afternoon and evening at Sage Lodge, perhaps gazing out at the snow-draped landscape or cozying up by the warming fireplace.
After breakfast, privately transfer with your driver-guide to the airport in Livingston where you board a low-altitude charter flight to Jackson, taking in a revealing bird’s-eye view of geothermal features and extraordinary vistas. Upon arrival, transfer to the National Museum of Wildlife Art, Jackson's premier art experience, for your private docent-led tour. The museum collection holds over 5,000 pieces from more than 500 artists. In addition, the museum grounds overlook the National Elk Refuge and the Gros Ventre Range. After stopping for lunch, return to Amangani and enjoy the balance of the day at your leisure, perhaps floating in the outdoor heated pool overlooking the mountains.
After breakfast, start your guided exploration of Jackson Hole. Discover Grand Teton National Park on an excursion curated to suit your interests as you venture through the gorgeous winter scenery all around you. The park is home to herds of elk and bison, moose and Rocky Mountain bighorn sheep, and you might catch a sighting of any throughout the morning. Listen as your guide shares insights into the history of the national park and the surrounding area as well as the region’s wildlife and ecosystem. Next, head into Jackson for the afternoon. Your guide can recommend a great location for lunch at leisure, followed by time to explore Jackson, strolling its galleries and shops. Return to your hotel by the late afternoon.
After breakfast, transfer from your hotel to the Jackson Airport for your homebound flight.
