The Mekong, Vietnam, Laos & Cambodia
A thoughtful journey back in time to the days of ancient Indochinese civilizations linked by the life-giving Mekong River...
...where multi-night stays in Hanoi, Luang Prabang, Siem Reap, Phnom Penh and Ho Chi Minh City promise in-depth exploration of historic sites, hands-on opportunities to do as the locals do and the luxury of immersing in cultural traditions and treasures from gracious grand hotels. A new day is dawning in the countries of Indochina, inviting with a mystical kaleidoscope of unique sights that resonate with a historic past and celebrate an exciting future. In cities like Hanoi, streets named for the products they sell... Pickled Fish, Wooden Bowl... buzz with vespas, and human-pedaled cyclos past colonial buildings, storied squares, temples and historic sites. Prayers and well wishes fill the air in Luang Prabang blessed with riverside beauty and rich with cultural traditions from rice to silk to gold leafed monasteries. Cambodia's Angkor Wat, ancient temples have defied time - and the jungle growth - remaining steeped in royal hospitality. Cyclos lead the way to a Royal Palace in Phnom Penh and "killing fields" chronicle a more turbulent time. Ho Chi Minh City comes alive with culinary treats and the fertile Mekong Delta thrives with local life - and promise. It's all underscored by a rich heritage and a river that share histories millennia old.

Please note: the Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum complex is closed each year for annual renovations from September to December; Ho Chi Minh's stilt house and the One-Pillar Pagoda remain open for viewing.
A morning visit to Hoa Lo Prison evokes solemn memories of the Vietnam War and the troops that were imprisoned inside. Continue on to the Museum of Ethnology, one of the most beautiful museums in Hanoi, where a guided tour of its exhibits provides fascinating insights into the lifestyles of Vietnam's 52 different ethnic groups. Following lunch, the remainder of the day is free to explore as you please.

Following lunch, the afternoon is yours to unwind and take in Phnom Penh at your leisure. Alternatively, you may choose to embark on a deeply moving and reflective journey to the 'Killing Fields' of Choeung Ek, a somber memorial site that commemorates Cambodia's tragic past, and then visit the Tuol Sleng Genocide Museum, a haunting reminder of resilience and history. The evening is free to spend as you please.
