Lin lives in Hang Dong, a countryside town that is a scenic 20-minute drive away from the bustling Chiang Mai city center. Lin learned her way around the kitchen by helping her mother prepare Lanna (Northern Thai) cuisine and desserts that they sold in the local market. Lin still enjoys the old-fashioned way of cooking on charcoal and using authentic Thai utensils. She started a cooking school of her own and is very proud of the family recipes she inherited from her mother. Lin is excited to share her culinary traditions with travelers from around the world. Join Lin for a market tour, cooking class and meal. For this experience, Lin will pick you up from your Chiang Mai hotel and take you to a local market with numerous fruit, vegetable and meat stalls. At the market, you will be introduced to the ingredients used in Lanna cuisine that you will later use in your cooking class. Since Lin grows her own vegetables in her organic garden, her knowledge on local ingredients is exceptional. After your tour, drive together to Lin’s countryside home for a cooking class and meal. First you will tour Lin’s large organic garden where she plants and harvests several of the vegetables she uses in her cooking. Lin will describe the produce in her farm and will also encourage you to smell, touch, pluck and taste the herbs and plants. Later you will join Lin in her open-air kitchen and dining area to learn how to make the authentic Northern Thai dishes that she grew up eating. You will learn to prepare 2-3 Lanna dishes in your hands-on cooking class that will last two hours. Please note, the experience cost includes transportation to and from Hang Dong with pick-up and drop-off from your central Chiang Mai hotel. Your half-day experience lasts about five hours and includes a market tour, cooking lesson and lunch, as well as a tour of Lin’s organic farm.
