1 Arrive Singapore
Arrive in Singapore and transfer privately to your hotel. Singapore’s sci-fi cityscape has inspired a futuristic mindset, and much of the city is buffed to such a high sheen that you can see your reflection in it. Peranakan-style shophouses are dwarfed by vertiginous high rises, while award-winning bak chor mee is served in bright bowlfuls at the UNESCO-protected hawker markets. In this city of superlatives, no gesture is too grand, no detail too small.

Most visitors to Malaysia stick to the insane headlong rush of Kuala Lumpur, the colonially soothing Cameron Highlands Hill Station or the hedonistic torpor of Langkawi. However, the island of East Malaysia offers spectacular wildlife, longhouses and the awe-inspiring Mt Kinabalu. Malaysia's love of Western-style industrialisation is abundantly clear in its big cities. Aside from the gleaming glass of the 21st Century, though, Malaysia boasts some of the most superb beaches, mountains and national parks in Asia.

Behind high-tech industries and high-rise buildings lives a society with an ingrained sense of conservative Confucian values. Beneath the westernized modernity beats a totally Asian heart. Strong beliefs center around extended families, filial piety, discipline, respect and Asian work ethics. Singapore’s name, meaning "Lion City," can be traced to the 13th century, and today there is the mythical Merlion, half-lion, half-fish, standing guard at the mouth of the Singapore River as the symbol of Singapore. A recent advertising campaign billed Singapore as "A Fine City."
