America's Greatest Treasures With Denver Start

Day 1DENVER AREA Welcome to Denver, the “Mile High City,” capital of Colorado and gateway to the Rocky Mountains. Your Tour Director is on hand from 3-6:00 p.m. to answer any questions. This evening is free to explore on your own.

Day 2DENVER AREA–CHEYENNE–BLACK HILLS–RAPID CITY Depart Denver and travel north to Cheyenne, capital of Wyoming. Then, on through the beautiful Black Hills of South Dakota to an overnight in Rapid City. (B)

Day 3RAPID CITY–CRAZY HORSE–MOUNT RUSHMORE–DEADWOOD Visit Crazy Horse Memorial, a monument-in-progress carved into a mountain as homage to Native American hero, Chief Crazy Horse. Drive deep into the Black Hills, through what was Sioux Indian territory, to see the stunning granite faces of Mount Rushmore, a giant monument to four iconic American presidents: Washington, Jefferson, Lincoln, and Theodore Roosevelt. On to Deadwood, a lawless frontier town during the 1876 Gold Rush, where Jack McCall murdered Wild Bill Hickok during a poker game. Stay overnight and discover Deadwood’s Wild West ways as you walk in the footsteps of legends like Calamity Jane and Seth Bullock. (CB)

Day 4DEADWOOD–CODY This morning, head through high country, where open-range cattle kings waged war on the homesteaders in the 1890s. Drive past Sheridan and then ascend into the alpine region of the Bighorn Mountains, and the site of the Battle of Tongue River. Overnight in Buffalo Bill’s frontier town of Cody.

Day 5CODY–YELLOWSTONE NATIONAL PARK–WEST YELLOWSTONE Proceed through Shoshone National Forest to spectacular Yellowstone National Park to discover dramatic canyons, alpine rivers, lush forests, hot springs, gushing geysers, and a wealth of incredible wildlife. Travel along Grand Loop Road to the Grand Canyon of the Yellowstone for views of the Lower Falls. Be on the lookout for herds of bison that call the park home. Overnight in West Yellowstone.

NOTES:
Routing and areas visited in Yellowstone National Park are always subject to favorable weather, gate access, and road conditions; therefore, routings may be adjusted.

Day 6WEST YELLOWSTONE. DAY EXCURSION TO YELLOWSTONE NATIONAL PARK Today, explore more of America’s first national park by returning to visit the geyser basins with bubbling mud paint pots and the reliable “blow” of the most famous geyser of all, Old Faithful. In addition to superb mountain scenery, the park is one of the world’s principal wildlife preserves and is home to 67 species of mammals and 300 species of birds making it a photographer’s paradise. (B)

Day 7WEST YELLOWSTONE–GRAND TETON NATIONAL PARK–JACKSON Head south into magnificent Grand Teton National Park, one of America’s last preserves of wild solitude. Its 13,770-foot-high ridges are crested with snow most of the year. View beautiful glacier-fed Jenny Lake before ending the day in the Wild West town of Jackson. This evening, consider an optional barbecue cookout and rip-roaring Wild West show! You’ll travel by horse-drawn covered wagon and immerse yourself in the old west atmosphere as you travel into Cache Creek Canyon for a BBQ dinner and toe-tapping musical entertainment. (B)

Day 8JACKSON Enjoy time to relax in Jackson or go with the flow this morning on an optional 8-mile scenic float trip down the Snake River between Grand Teton National Park and Bridger Teton National Forest. This fun float trip passes nesting areas of bald eagles, ospreys and a plethora of other bird species and wildlife. The afternoon is free to explore historic downtown Jackson.

Day 9JACKSON–SALT LAKE CITY Today, travel to Salt Lake City, Utah’s vibrant capital. Set on the edge of Great Salt Lake Desert, this center of the Mormon religion is where Brigham Young declared to his followers, “This is the place.” An included sightseeing tour features a glimpse of Temple Square, the Capitol Building, and the downtown area. This evening, celebrate your western adventure by joining an optional farewell dinner with your fellow traveling companions at a local restaurant.

Day 10SALT LAKE CITY Your vacation ends this morning. You may choose to extend your vacation with extra nights and explore Salt Lake City further. (B)

Featured Destinations
Jackson, WY
This town hasn't changed much since the West was won, with historical architecture, authentic saloons, and a true wild western atmosphere.
Grand Teton National Park
Towering more than a mile above the valley of Jackson Hole, the Grand Teton rises to 13,770 feet. Twelve Teton peaks reach above 12,000 feet and support a dozen mountain glaciers. The west side of the range slopes gently, showing the angle of tilt of the Earth's crust. The Teton Range is the youngest range in the Rockies and displays some of North America's oldest rocks.
West Yellowstone, MT
West Yellowstone is a small community located in Montana. It is a historic gateway community to Yellowstone National Park, existing since the early 1900s. Enjoy epic fishing, snowmobiling, spectacular ski trails, historic town buildings and a friendly atmosphere that will make you feel at home.
Deadwood
Located in the heart of the Black Hills of South Dakota, Deadwood is a historically significant city to the gold rush of 1876. Deadwood originally was settled on Lakota land in the 1870s, and once gold was discovered, the town became known for wild saloons, brothels and gambling. Deadwood’s wild reputation was furthered after the murder of gunman Wild Bill Hickok. Deadwood turned around its reputation when the economy changed to mining. The entire town was later designated a National Historic Landmark in 1961. Gaming was legalized in 1989 to bring revenue and interest back to the area, and is popular today. Visitors to Deadwood also enjoy touring the restored Victorian buildings unique to the West. Hiking, horseback riding and mountain biking is popular in the summer, and skiing is enjoyed in the winter at two nearby ski areas.
Cody
Cody, Wyoming is known as the "Rodeo Capital of the World." Enjoy an authentic rodeo when visiting, or some of the many other historic experiences of the old west, such as a visit to the Buffalo Bill Historic Center. Located at the edge of Bighorn Basin with the Shoshone River flowing through Cody, spectacular panoramic views abound. Cody is also conveniently located just miles from the east gate of Yellowstone National Park.
Rapid City
Rapid City is your bridge to some of the most intriguing and beautiful attractions in America: The inspirational Mt. Rushmore National Memorial, the visionary Crazy Horse Memorial, and the tranquil Black Hills National Forest with its abundant wildlife. There are mountains at our doorstep, filled to the brim with incredible scenery and crystal blue lakes. There are herds of buffalo roaming Custer State Park, the Badlands and Devils Tower.
Denver
Denver is not only the perfect gateway to the Rocky Mountains and the American West - it is also a major tourism destination, filled with world-class attractions, excellent accommodations, over 2,000 restaurants and the finest shopping in the region. Just a few of its new projects include: Coors Field, Prehistoric Journey, and Six Flags, just to name a few. Denver has amusement parks, sightseeing, fine dining, AAA basketball, museums, and that is not all. Nighttime entertainment includes: music and dance clubs with music ranging from smooth sounding jazz to lively disco, comedy clubs, concerts, theater, opera, symphony and movies. Even with all there is to do, virtually no one comes to Denver without visiting the Colorado Ocean Journey.
Salt Lake City

The city offers a variety of attractions, amusement centers, and unique attractions & activities to please children of all ages. Salt Lake is also recognized as one of the best ski areas in the United States with ten major ski resorts, seven cross country areas, and the nation's only recreational ski jumping complex, all with one hour of downtown Salt Lake. It's an ideal place for a memorable winter vacation. Delight in animal antics and winged wonders. Glide round an outdoor skating rink downtown.
