Highlights Of The Canyonlands

Day 1 LAS VEGAS Welcome to exciting Las Vegas, also known as “Sin City!” Your Tour Director is on hand from 3-6pm to answer any questions.

Day 2 LAS VEGAS–WILLIAMS–GRAND CANYON NATIONAL PARK Cross the desert and the old Mojave gold-strike country, passing through Williams on historic Route 66, and Kaibab National Forest, to arrive in the Grand Canyon by mid-afternoon. Marvel at one of the Natural Wonders of the World as you experience breathtaking views of Grand Canyon National Park. Accommodations this evening are inside the park.

Day 3 GRAND CANYON NATIONAL PARK–MONUMENT VALLEY–KAYENTA If you miss the sunset over the canyon, sunrise is just as impressive! See the canyon from the sky aboard an optional helicopter flightseeing excursion for thrilling views of the canyon’s flame-colored walls plunging 6,093 feet into the Colorado River. Journey across the Navajo Nation to Monument Valley to experience the American West as it was immortalized on the silver screen. Situated on the Arizona/Utah border, the valley’s scenic desert vistas and iconic buttes have appeared in countless classic Western films. See the massive formations on a memorable 4-wheel-drive tour with a knowledgeable Navajo guide. This evening, you’re invited to join in an optional Navajo cookout for dinner, served with a stunning view of the red-rock canyons of Monument Valley.

Day 4 KAYENTA–NAVAJO NATIONAL MONUMENT–LAKE POWELL–PAGE This morning visit Navajo National Monument. Listed on the National Register of Historic Places, the monument was established to preserve three cliff dwellings of villages built by prehistoric Ancestral Puebloans that date from 1250 to 1300 AD. At the visitor center, view artifacts and one or all three of the films available. Afterward, see Glen Canyon Dam, holding back the waters of the Colorado River in Lake Powell, the country’s second-largest man-made lake. Later, perhaps take the optional hike to see the beautiful view from Horseshoe Bend Overlook.

Day 5 PAGE–BRYCE CANYON NATIONAL PARK This morning, follow an expert Navajo guide on an optional tour through the amazing natural wonder of Antelope Canyon, and discover for yourself why it’s one of the most photographed destinations in the Southwest. Or take to the sky for amazing views from above on an optional morning Flightseeing excursion. Then, travel into Utah along the Grand Staircase to Bryce Canyon National Park. Bryce is famous for its unique geology as erosion has created bizarre shapes, including slot canyons, windows, fins, and spires called “hoodoos.” Tinted with numerous colors, these rocks create a wondrous landscape. (B)

Day 6 BRYCE CANYON NATIONAL PARK–ZION NATIONAL PARK–ST. GEORGE “Zion” is an ancient Hebrew word meaning a place of refuge or sanctuary. Once a refuge for Mormon pioneers, Zion National Park’s striking landscapes of steep canyons and stone towers carved out by rushing streams over millions of years will mesmerize you. You’ll have free time to take a leisurely hike, rent a bicycle and take a spin through the canyon, or board the narrated park shuttle and hop on and off to enjoy the views and take pictures. Depart Zion and head to St. George, where you’ll enjoy an orientation tour of the most important Mormon community in southern Utah. (B)

Day 7 ST. GEORGE–LAS VEGAS Travel back to Las Vegas, with a stop at Harry Reid International Airport for those with homebound flights. Please schedule departing flights after 12 noon. The trip ends at the Sahara Las Vegas hotel for those guests with extra nights. (B)

Featured Destinations
St. George, Utah
St. George, the county's largest city, lies along interstate 15 with a host of smaller communities that make up Utah's Dixie. The scenic area not only provides easy access to major markets of the western United States, it has become a destination point for countless people looking for a better way of life and more fruitful atmosphere for growth and prosperity. The tiny farming community of St. George had grown up and surrounding cities followed suit. By the end of the decade, the St. George-Zion National Park areas of Washington County were rated among the best communities in the country to retire by Rand McNalley, Prentice Hall, Money and the American Association of Retired People.
Bryce Canyon National Park
At Bryce Canyon National Park, erosion has shaped colorful Claron limestones, sandstones, and mudstones into thousands of spires, fins, pinnacles, and mazes. Collectively called "hoodoos," these colorful and whimsical formations stand in horseshoe-shaped amphitheaters along the eastern edge of the Paunsaugunt Plateau in Southern Utah.
Kayenta
Kayenta, in northeastern Navajo County, is about 20 miles south of the Utah border on US 163. It is 148 miles north-northeast of Flagstaff and 99 miles west of Shiprock, New Mexico. Because of its remoteness, in the early days the Kayenta region was seldom visited by non-Indians. In 1874, Mormon emigrants travelled through on their way from Tuba City to Aneth. In 1910, a trading post opened at Kayenta; In 1914, the March Pass School opened; and in 1916, another trading post opened. Since that time, especially with road paving through the area, Kayenta has had considerably more traffic and has been designated a 'growth center' of the reservation. Navajos refer to Kayenta as Tohdenasshai.
Grand Canyon National Park
Located entirely in northern Arizona, the park encompasses 277 miles of the Colorado River and adjacent uplands. One of the most spectacular examples of erosion anywhere in the world, Grand Canyon is unmatched in the incomparable vistas it offers to visitors on the rim. Grand Canyon National Park is a World Heritage Site.
Page
Page, situated on a mesa in extreme north-central Arizona, is gateway to Glen Canyon National Recreation Area and Lake Powell. Created as a company town for the construction of Glen Canyon Dam in the 1960s, it has steadily grown adding more and more amenities, not usually experienced in a small desert town. In the southern portion of the Great Basin Desert, Page is also becoming a strong regional shopping area with national store chains. Page has a relaxed lifestyle, but is competitive in the marketplace. Page has more than 3 million visitors per year; the average stay is 48 hours - the highest of National Parks. Page is a young town with average an age being between 33 and 40. Visitors from all nations are welcomed in the Page/Lake Powell area.
Las Vegas
Las Vegas is one of the nation's hot spots. There are nightly shows, great dining, and world famous live entertainment to thrill and dazzle every visitor walking down the strip. Las Vegas is the largest city in the nation for gambling and entertainment. Casinos continuously amaze with their shows, attractions, and non stop gaming. Las Vegas has many local attractions and entertainment. World famous shows such as, Tom Jones, David Copperfield, Siegfried & Roy, and Steve and Eddie are here. Casinos offer live entertainment, fine dining, and all types of gambling to fit everyone's desire. Las Vegas also has great shopping, museums, and some of the nations best golf. Although Las Vegas is primarily known for gambling, everything else is worth offering here as well.
