Day 2 Izmir, Türkiye
Welcome to Izmir. Once the ancient city of Smyrna, today it's a lively Aegean port where centuries of civilization have left their mark on every café-lined street and sun-warmed promenade. Settle into your hotel for three nights. With no included activities today, the evening is yours to unwind and explore in your own way.
Day 3 Izmir
Start your day with a visit to Karsiyaka, a district translated literally as “the other side.” Walk through its main street filled with shops and restaurants that have preserved their Turkish roots. Then, take a short public ferry to Konak Pier. You’ll get a real feel for the city’s rhythm and daily life as you explore and taste your way through the winding lanes of the Kemaralti Bazaar with your Tour Manager. Stop at several local market vendors for simit, börek, and more. The afternoon is yours and your hotel places you in the center of it all. Day 4 Izmir - Ephesus - Sirince - Izmir
This morning, your in-depth tour of ancient Ephesus (UNESCO) takes you through the residential Terrace Houses, past the great Library of Celsus and the ruins of the Temple of Artemis, walking the same marble paths that Paul the Apostle once traveled. Visit the Archaeological Museum to round out the morning. This afternoon, the hilltop village of Sirince awaits — a rare, protected example of Ottoman Christian architecture, its streets lined with locally made olive oil, wine, and peaches. This morning, visit the Mevlâna Museum in Konya, the world center of the Whirling Dervishes and one of the most visited pilgrimage sites in the world. The road then leads to a visit to Sultanhani Caravanserai, one of the largest surviving Silk Road rest stops, where the soaring stone vaults give you a real sense of the scale of ancient trade. Today belongs to Istanbul's greatest landmarks, and they do not disappoint. Visit Hagia Sophia (UNESCO), a breathtaking structure that has served as cathedral, mosque, and museum over the course of its long life, before stepping inside Topkapi Palace and Harem, where the Ottoman Sultans once held court. Then, continue to the 17th-century Blue Mosque with its cascade of domes and slender minarets, followed by the Hippodrome, once the roaring heart of the Roman Empire. The private tour program will start with the Roman Hippodrome that was a colossal stadium housing horse races around which the socio-political life of the Roman capital was centered. In its great days, it was 1575 feet long, 384 feet wide and held 100,000 spectators. It was the site of chariot racing, gladiator fights, circuses, inaugurations and triumphal parades.

In the afternoon, visit the World famous Hagia Sophia (The Church of Divine Wisdom), one of the extraordinary masterpieces in the history of World architecture. When a previous church on this site was burned during the Nikka Revolt in 532, Justinian ordered his architect, Isidorus, to build a structure worthy of his empire. Hagia Sophia was completed in only five years and was dedicated on Christmas Day of 537. The building inspired countless generations by its innovations in weight support and construction techniques and what a dome it was: the popular belief was that ‘the dome was suspended from Heaven by an invisible golden chain’. In reality it was work of men, but a worldly simulator of the Heavens
Finally, visit the Grand Bazaar, more dazzling than any other oriental bazaar, built in 1461 and in service ever since. It contains 3,500 shops employing more than 20,000 people all under one roof. Everything imaginable in the world is for sale here, glittering gold and silver jewelry, antique tiles, leather, and souvenirs. Just seeing and experiencing this fascinating bazaar is a memorable experience.

First visit of the day is to the Galata Tower which was built in 1303 by immigrants from Genoa, Italy. While sipping your Turkish coffee there, you will be amazed at the spectacular view of the Golden Horn and the old buildings located on its shores depicting how Istanbul looked hundreds years ago.
The private tour will continue with a visit to the Neve Shalom and the oldest Synagogue in Istanbul- the Ahrida Synagogue, built around 1470 by Jewish immigrants from Macedonia.
Lunch will be served at a local restaurant close to the sites.
The guests will be then taken to the Jewish Museum of Turkey. There is evidence that this building as a former synagogue existed in 1671. However the actual building was re-erected over its original foundations presumably in the early 19th Century. Zulfaris Synagogue has opened its doors as the Jewish museum in 2001. Continue to Mosque of Suleyman the Magnificent, which is the most important of all the imperial mosques in Istanbul. It was built between 1550 and 1557 by Sinan, and is erected on the crest of a hill. The mosque is conspicuous by its great size, and has four minarets – one in each corner of the courtyard. In the afternoon, you will visit the Mihrimah Sultan Mosque located in the Edirnekapi neighborhood near the Byzantine city walls. Located on the peak of the Sixth Hill near the highest point of the city, the mosque is a prominent landmark in Istanbul. The Mihrimah Sultan Mosque was designed by "Sinan the Architect" for the favorite daughter of Suleiman the Magnificent, Princess Mihrimah.
Last visit of the day will be to the Sehzade Mosque which was commissioned by Sultan Suleiman in memory of his eldest son by Hürrem, Prince Mehmet, who died the age of 21. It was the first major commission by the Imperial Architect Sinan and was completed in 1548. Dalyan is a largely undeveloped, tranquil village offering classic Turkish hospitality, and attractions. The thermal springs at Sultaniye, and the Dalyan mud baths are also not to be missed and make for an out of the ordinary holiday experience. The surrounding wetlands are home to a variety of wildlife and birds, and the town is adjacent to pine-covered mountains and lush fields, making this an excellent destination for nature-lovers. Boat trips are popular with visitors, as are jeep safaris, mountain-biking, kayaking, paragliding, fishing, snorkeling and more.

At 8:30 am, an English speaking private lecturer/guide will meet and greet you outside the Bonded Area of the Izmir cruise pier. You will then be escorted to your chauffeur driven private deluxe air-conditioned vehicle, for a comfortable ride of about one and a half hours to start your full day PERGAMUM tour, with its Asclepion and Acropolis.
One of the biggest healing centers (medical center) of the ancient world (after Epidauros in Greece) was Asclepion. The oracles were using music and thermal spring water for treatment. One of the most celebrated citizens of Pergamum was physician GALEN. The author of several medical books, Galen (AD 129 – 200) practiced at Pergamum in the Asclepion and in Rome, where the Emperor Marcus Aurelious was among his patients.
Visit Pergamum (Capital city of the Hellenistic Kingdom) featuring visits to the majestic Acropol and Asclepion- the Sanctuary of Athena, the Library of Pergamum, that contained 200.000 volumes, given to Cleopatra by Mark Anthony, as a wedding present to be added to her collection in the Alexandria Library – continue to visit the Temple of Trojan (built by the worshipped Emperor Hadrian for Emperor Trojan before him), famous Theater (the steepest raked Hellenistic Theater in the World), the Zeus Altar, (known to be the finest altar ever built) and the Red Court.
A typical lunch can be enjoyed at your discretion and cost, at one of the local restaurants.
At the end of the tour, you will be transferred back to Izmir port to board your cruise ship by 3-4 pm.
