Day 2: Full Day Pyramids, Sphinx, Memphis and Sakkara with Lunch and Pyramids Sound and Light ShowBegin your full-day exploration at the Giza Pyramids plateau. Explore the magnificent Great Pyramid of Giza, the Pyramid of Khafre, and the Pyramid of Menkaure. Visit the enigmatic Sphinx. Continue your journey to Memphis, the ancient capital of Egypt, to see the colossal statue of Ramses II and the alabaster sphinx. Proceed to the Sakkara necropolis to explore the Step Pyramid of Djoser and surrounding ancient tombs. Conclude your full day with a transfer back to your location.
The show begins with the story of the Sphinx who has been the vigilant guardian of the City of the Dead for five thousand years. The show depicts the story of building the Pyramids of Cheops, Kephren, Mykerinos and relates the history of great and famous figures of ancient Egypt such as Nefertiti, Thutmosis IV, Akhnaten and Tut Ankh Amon.
Day 3: Half Day Egyptian Museum, Bellies En Route and Nile Dinner CruiseThe Egyptian museum was built during the reign of Khedive Abbass Helmi II in 1897, and opened its doors on November 15th, 1902. Today, the museum contains the most important collection of Egyptian antiquities in the world. Exhibited are over 120,000 objects from the Pharaonic and Graeco-Roman periods, including the celebrated mummies of ancient Egyptian kings and the treasures of King Tut Ankh Amun. A special "Hidden Treasures" exhibit in the museum's redesigned basement features more than 150 artifacts on display for the first time.
Going on a food discovery tour with your Bellies en Route guide where the tour starts at the historic Tahrir Square and continue through the Haussman-inspired streets of Downtown Cairo to get introduced to Egyptian cuisine in just a few hours. There will be seven stops for different foods and drinks, where you will discover more about Egyptian food and history. You'll try a variety of different food including kushari (a popular Egyptian dish with pasta, rice and lentils), fresh juices and local baklava during this four hour tour. Make sure you're hungry when you start as you'll be very full by the end!
You are transferred to the Nile Bank to board the cruise for two hours sailing on the Nile. Enjoy the cruise at night, together with live music while open buffet dinner is served. After dinner, a belly dancer performs with a professional Oriental band and singer.
Day 4: Half Day The Grand Egyptian Museum GEM and Half Day Cooking ClassBe part of this monumental moment as Egypt's history comes to life on October 16th, 2024. From ancient cultures to majestic dynasties, provide your clients a remarkable journey through the ages.
Historical Scope: The 12 Main Galleries span Egypt's entire ancient history, showcasing 15,000 artifacts. These galleries are divided into four main sections:
1. Prehistoric to The Second Intermediate Period: This section explores the rise of early societies and the powerful royal legacies who united Egypt and built the first pyramids. Societies during this era were highly stratified, with the king seen as a god-like figure who maintained order. Beliefs centered on the afterlife and the king's divine role in ensuring cosmic balance, with monumental tombs and temples reflecting the deep connection between rulers and the gods. Egypt's illustrious Old Kingdom gave way to the First Intermediate Period, marked by a fragmented era and the emergence of powerful provincial governors.
2. Middle Kingdom to Second Intermediate Period: This section displays the resurgence of centralized power and royal legacies. Society became more inclusive, as ordinary people began to gain access to elaborate funerary practices previously reserved for royalty. Beliefs in the afterlife expanded, with the common people seeking divine protection through ritual objects, texts, and burial traditions to secure their place in the afterworld.
3. New Kingdom: This era marked the height of Egypt's imperial power, with royal legacies of warrior-kings like Ramesses II and queens like Hatshepsut. Egyptian society was rich and diverse, expanding through military conquests and trade. Beliefs in the afterlife grew more elaborate, with gods like Amun-Ra receiving grand offerings and temples reflecting the pharaoh's divine connection, ensuring their eternal place among the gods.
4. Third Intermediate to Graeco-Roman Period: As Egypt transitioned into foreign rule, society adapted with a fusion of Egyptian and Greco-Roman traditions. The royal legacies of the Ptolemaic Dynasty, ending with the reign of Cleopatra, exemplify the blending of Egyptian and foreign influences. Beliefs persisted in the enduring power of the gods and the afterlife, even as new cultural influences shaped religious practices, art, and burial traditions.
The Egyptian cooking class & market tour aims to familiarize visitors with some Egyptian dishes and how we cook them at home, as well as introduce guests to commonly used ingredients, spices, Egyptian fresh produce and typical meal or dish combinations at an Egyptian home. All experiences begin with a market tour that allows guests to immerse in street market culture while learning its history, types of vendors, and seeing locals shop for their everyday items. The guests will also learn about picking fresh vegetables. All the classes also cover the history and stories of the dishes prepared. The purpose of this experience is to offer guests an authentic cultural experience which acts as a souvenir they can remember years later. Also, guests will be able to continue to recreate their memories of Egypt after receiving their very own digital recipe book after completing the class.
Day 5: Full Day Medieval CairoToday you will enjoy a medieval atmosphere while walking through the old gates of Cairo into Al Moez Street with its heritage of mausoleums, mosques, palaces and schools dating from Fatimid, Ayyubid, Mamluke and Ottoman Eras. Cross Al Azhar Street to visit the caravansary-like Wekalet el Ghoury, and the Mamluke Style housed of Zeinab Khatoun.
Have lunch at Al Azhar Park amid the minarets of Cairo and the Citadel panorama. After lunch visit the Ibn Tulun mosque, being the oldest intact mosque standing in Egypt dating to the ninth century and characterized by its unique spiral minaret copied from the mosque of Samaraa. Add to your knowledge of Cairo's old houses by a visit to the Next door Gayer Anderson Museum, one of the famous locations where the James Bond film "The Spy who Loved Me" was shot.
