On Safari In Kenya With Nairobi & Mombasa
Day 1: ARRIVE IN NAIROBI, KENYA Welcome to Africa! Arrive this evening, check in to your hotel, and prepare for your safari adventure!
Day 2: NAIROBI Start your private sightseeing with a morning game drive in Nairobi National Park. Later, visit the elephant orphanage at the Sheldrick Wildlife Trust, founded by Dame Daphne Sheldrick. Learn about elephant conservation and meet elephant calves, orphaned by poachers, before they are re-introduced to the wild. As part of Globus family of brands Lighthouse Project, your visit contributes to the Trust’s mission. Next, enjoy lunch at Karen Blixen Gardens followed by a visit to the museum, dedicated to the author of Out of Africa. Lastly, stop at the Giraffe Center, a nonprofit organization focused on saving the Rothschild’s giraffe. Take the opportunity to feed these amazing animals with an up-close interaction with the world’s tallest land mammal. (B,L)
Day 3: NAIROBI–NYERI AFTERNOON GAME DRIVE IN SOLIO GAME RESERVE This morning, depart for Nyeri, your base for exploring Kenya’s Laikipia region. After lunch, set out on your first exhilarating game drive in nearby Solio Game Reserve, one of East Africa’s most successful private rhino breeding sanctuaries. Home to over 200 black and white rhinos, it’s common to spot 40 at a time. Dinner tonight is at your lodge. (B,L,D)
Day 4: NYERI-MORNING GAME DRIVE IN SOLIO Start your day with a morning game drive. Beyond magnificent rhino there is an abundance of other wildlife making for great game viewing. Spot lion, reticulated giraffe, eland, leopard, cheetah, and much more. Return to your lodge for lunch prior to an afternoon at leisure. (B,L,D)
Day 5: NYERI–NYAHURURU FALLS–LAKE NAKURU NATIONAL PARK Leave Nyeri and journey through the beautiful Kenyan highlands, one of the most fertile agricultural areas in all of Africa, where farmers grow corn, wheat, coffee, and tea. Stop at Nyahururu Falls, also known as Thompson’s Falls, and then on to Lake Nakuru National Park. After lunch at your lodge, set out on an afternoon game drive. (B,L,D)
Day 6: LAKE NAKURU Today, embark on morning and afternoon game drives. The park is home to a variety of animals including giraffes, impala, Cape buffalo, flamingo, and striped hyena. Between game drives, relax or enjoy the infinity pool overlooking the lake at the lodge. Located on a hillside, the lodge features paths for nature walks and sheltered outdoor terraces for stunning views over the lake. (B,L,D)
Day 7: LAKE NAKURU–MAASAI MARA NATIONAL RESERVE This morning, depart for Maasai Mara National Reserve, Kenya’s most famous game area. After lunch at your lodge, set out in search of the “Big 5”—lion, leopard, elephant, rhino, and Cape buffalo. As part of Globus family of brands Lighthouse Project, your visit here contributes to Endangered Wildlife Conservation Network’s Lion Recovery Fund project, which works towards the rehabilitation of lions and their habitats. Day 8: MAASAI MARA Today, enjoy morning and afternoon game drives in the “Mara,” as it is called by locals. Part of the Serengeti ecosystem, the reserve boasts a strong permanent population of game. When the Great Migration of wildebeest and zebra arrives, the population enlarges by almost 2 million, providing a great food source for predators such as lions, cheetah, leopard, and hyena. (B,L,D)
Day 9: MAASAI MARA–NAIROBI–AMBOSELI NATIONAL PARK Today, board a quick flight to Nairobi. Drive to Amboseli National Park, best known for spectacular views of 19,341-foot Mount Kilimanjaro, the highest mountain in Africa. Take the opportunity to spot a wealth of wildlife, including more than 400 species of birds. Embark on an afternoon game drive before settling in at your lodge located in the foothills of Africa’s highest mountain. (B,L,D)
Day 10: AMBOSELI Morning and afternoon game drives offer a terrific opportunity to get close to the mighty African elephant, along with the chance to spot Cape buffalo, zebra, wild dog, and more. During the heat of the day, relax at your lodge to enjoy the pool, local craft market, or a card game with a fellow traveler. (B,L,D)
Day 11: AMBOSELI–NAIROBI–MOMBASA Return to Nairobi for a flight to Mombasa. Upon arrival, a Cosmos team member will assist with your transfer to your resort. Your beachfront resort for the next three nights offers expansive views of the Indian Ocean from your private patio and includes meals, along with a variety of entertainment and sporting activities. Day 12: MOMBASA Visit Old Town Mombasa with a Local Guide. This historic, narrow-street neighborhood, showcases Swahili, Arab, and Portuguese architectural influences. See key sights including the 16th-century Fort Jesus (a UNESCO World Heritage site), intricate carved wooden doors, the Old Port, and vibrant spice markets. Enjoy lunch at a local restaurant and a bit of free time to shop for antiques, textiles, and jewelry. Return to the hotel for a free afternoon and evening. (B,L,D)
Day 13: MOMBASA Let the hours drift as you wander between the resort’s inviting activities, indulge in flavorful cuisine at charming restaurants and bars, or simply bask in the warm coastal sun by the pool or along the whispering shore. However you choose to spend it, the day is yours to enjoy your way. (B,L,D)
Day 14: MOMBASA–NAIROBI After breakfast, return to Mombasa airport for a flight to Nairobi, where a day room is reserved at the Crowne Plaza Nairobi Airport hotel for your convenience. Schedule departing flights after 5 pm. (B)
