The Brando is a unique luxury resort on French Polynesia's breathtaking private island of Tetiaroa, an atoll composed of a dozen small islands surrounding a sparkling lagoon 30 miles north of Tahiti. The Brando offers carefree luxury in pristine nature. With access to the island by private plane, the resort features thirty-five (35) villas and one (1) Teremoana Residence on white-sand beaches frequented by sea turtles and exotic birds.

The resort reflects ancient Polynesian cultures and each beachfront villa has its own private beach area and plunge pool. Our all-inclusive resort offers three restaurants showcasing Polynesian, French and Japanese cuisine, a spa overlooking a lily pond, an organic garden and orchard, a pool, a lagoon view bar, a beach bar, tennis courts and library.

Over 18 different activities & diversions are available to guests of The Brando from snorkel & kayak excursions, to naturalist tours, scuba diving, Polynesian cultural activities and some of the best open water fly & deep-sea fishing can be found in our waters, Come visit during our green sea turtle nesting (November thru January) & hatching season (February thru April) or snorkel with the migrating humpback &gray whales during our spectacular whale season happening annually August thru early October.

To many, the islands of Tahiti appear as mere pinheads of soil lost in the staggering immensity of the Pacific. Visitors often ask, with a hint of misplaced pity, “Isn’t that in the middle of nowhere?” But to those of us who inhabit the Blue Planet, the perspective is inverted. Tahiti is not an isolated speck; it is the center of everywhere. In the eyes of the Polynesian people, the world is defined by Moana Nui Akea: the Great Ocean. It is not a barrier to be crossed, but a sacred expanse that connects all things.

The Polynesians who first settled these remote reaches performed arguably the most intrepid feats of seamanship in human history. Their mastery of the environment represents a profound divergence in human thought. While European explorers eventually conquered the seas through the mathematics of spherical trigonometry and mechanical timepieces – imposing a theoretical overlay upon the globe – the Tahitians navigated within nature. By reading the stars, the wind, the migration of seabirds and the subtle language of ocean swells, they moved with the rhythm of the planet rather than trying to measure it into submission.

This intimate connection to the natural world has forged a people characterized by a rare, luminous spirit. Polynesians are quick to laugh and are generous of heart, yet they possess great perspicacity. They are extremely observant, able to read a human face as clearly as they read the surface of the sea. This clarity extends to their stewardship of the Earth. Having thrived for centuries on limited island resources, they mastered the art of sustainability long before it became a global buzzword. They did not just survive; they thrived, cultivating a life of mirth, simplicity and elegance.

Despite centuries of cultural assault and the modern pressures of economic dependency, the core of the Polynesian value system remains unyielding. Their resilience is a testament to the strength found in traditional knowledge. In my work across these islands, I have witnessed a beautiful convergence: the Tahitian people can tell you how nature works through generations of observation, while the scientist explains why it is so. Neither is superior; they are two halves of a whole understanding.

We live on a planet that is more water than land, more blue than green. By looking to the people of the Pacific, we see a mirror of our own global reality: we are all inhabitants of a pinhead island floating in a vast cosmic sea. The true genius of the Polynesian spirit lies in the understanding that we do not exist outside of nature, but as a vital part of its fabric. What we do to nature, we do to our communities and to ourselves. As our troubled planet searches for a way forward, the wisdom of the islands offers us a compass.

To save our future, we must learn to navigate as the Tahitians do: by keen observation, by reading the signs of the world around us with humility, protecting our resources with foresight, and treating one another with the sincere kindness of those who know we are all in the same boat.

The 22 villas along Turtle Beach and 13 villas along Mermaid Bay, each with a private pool, have been designed to reflect Polynesian lifestyle and traditions.

Also on Mermaid Bay is the sprawling, three-bedroom Teremoana Residence. The ultimate in luxury and privacy, it sits on 1.25 acres of pristine white sand beach and boasts 3,000 square feet each of elegant indoor and outdoor living space. The three bedrooms are ensuite and feature private, furnished terraces. The Teremoana Residence is available iwth a Butler or with a Private Service plan that includes butler, chef, houskeeper and maitre d'.

Every villa is on a white sand beach, has its own outdoor eating and private beach area, its own private pool, soft, cozy furnishings, large windows that let you indulge in the sun, the breeze and lagoon views, and modern conveniences such as a media room. The Brando is a unique resort and model of sustainable technology on a private island. The resort is located on Tetiaroa, the former playground of Tahitian Kings, in French Polynesia’s idyllic islands.

Location:

Tetiaroa is located 30 miles (60 km) northeast of the island of Tahiti and is surrounded on all sides by the great blue expanse of the South Pacific . The Brando is located on Onetahi a motu spanning 78 hectares (193 acres) .

Access:

Tetiaroa is completely private with its own airfield . Two or more round-trip charter flights a day are planned or will be organized aboard one of two 8 - passenger Britten Norman airplanes (turboprop twin - engine) , duration of approximately 20 minutes, between a private terminal at Tahiti’s Faa ’ a International Airport and Motu Onetahi . After landing at Motu Onetahi, guests will be greeted by a representative of The Brando and escorted by private electric vehicle to their private villa.
