Taste of Bordeaux

October

Pros: Great itinerary. Very good and knowledgeable local guides. Immaculate ship. Well organized every day with guests coming and going on different day tours.

Cons: Most of the meals were very good, but as seafood eaters, we were disappointed in the daily fish dinners offered. They were not very flavorful and grilled fish was never an option. The meat dishes, however, were very good. All staff members were polite and efficient, but some front desk and dining room servers were not as friendly as we have experienced on our 3 other Ama cruises.

Recommended: Yes

We really like that Ama offers up to 3 different activities everyday in ports, and especially that they are included in the price of the trip.

Good For First River Cruise

October

Pros: Friendly staff, good staff-to-guest ratio, nice ship, excellent basic service.

Cons: Food portions small and selection was limited.

Recommended: Yes

Had a couple of maintenance issues that took a couple of days to resolve, but otherwise was good service. Food selection not best for me (allergy issue), so many dishes needed to be "altered". Did not see any of the evening entertainment, but variety seemed good.

Fabulous Wine Cruise

April

Pros: Cruise director- Ioana , excursions, crew, chiefs table, pre & post excursions and small boat.

Cons:

Recommended: Yes

We want to thank Ioana Dulcea for a wonderful tour of the Loire Valley. Our guide Simon's presentation was very interesting and he brought life to the many castles. We highly recommend using him again for the Loire Valley tour. We loved the castle we stayed in and the meal that was planned at the restaurant. Ioana was fun to be with and she is very knowledgable about the local customs and food. Was very special to have a private tour with her and AMA is very lucky to employ her as a cruise director she is wonderful and other passengers had the same appreciation for her as well. Our pre tour was also well planned and Ioana helped break it up with local cookies and stories. We look forward to our next AMA river cruise and would be very happy to have Ioana as our cruise director again. Thank you Ioana for everything!!!

What a Way to Go!

July

Pros: Great attention to passengers by staff

Cons: none

Recommended: Yes

Have sailed with Ama on several occasions. Each time we notice small but significant upgrades. This time, tighter security aboard ship, a happy hour called Sip n Sail, and highlighted menu items such as seafood of the region

Bordeaux Wine tour

May

Pros: Staff, comfort, caring.

Cons: Food just missed the mark. Beautiful presentation, complex, but some pairings of food did not work.

Recommended: Yes

Our first cruise ever. Staff was very accommodating and helpful. On board, I had no trouble getting around despite my mobility issues. Land based trips also worked out with some accommodations made for me to use my scooter by choosing sites with only a few stairs that I could handle with my poles, if necessary. Overall, it was a good introduction to cruising and we will plan another cruise, perhaps on the Douro River.
