Great Vacation on the Viking Sky - Homelands Cruise

August

Pros: Beautiful, well designed ship and cabins, great itinerary, tours and excellent food.

Cons: Did not get to sign up for 2 tours that we had wanted, as they were sold out.

Recommended: Yes

The Viking Sky is beautiful and well designed, as are the cabins. The ship is immaculate. Like a 5-star hotel on the water. The size of the ship is perfect and the ratio of passengers to crew is about 1 ½ crew to every passenger. Our cabin attendants provided amazing service twice daily and we were always made to feel like we were coming home at the end of a long day of touring, as they always greeted us by name and with a big smile! The cabin itself was well designed with a Scandinavian flair. We were in a Veranda cabin, with a balcony with a table and 2 chairs, refrigerator, a very comfortable king size bed, coffee table and two upholstered chairs, a desk with a built-in storage/ make-up mirror that lit up and a lovely modern bathroom, which included a heated floor. The room also included ample storage space and a safe for valuables. Viking provided robes and slippers for our use while on the ship. We took advantage of the gym, luxurious spa and shipboard classes that were offered and were wonderful! We enjoyed the onboard food in all the restaurants and ate twice in each specialty restaurant that is all included. There are many public areas that seem under-utilized where passengers seeking solitude can find peace and quiet. We enjoyed the onboard historian, the port talks, the nightly entertainment in the various venues and the cruise director. We found the Viking Homelands itinerary to be exceptional, as it hit most of the destination highlights that we were looking for on our Scandinavian adventure. The included tours were excellent due to the quality of the tour guides, as were the optional tours that we took.

British Isles Explorer

July

Pros: Wonderful trip that went according to plan.

Cons: The weather for this itinerary is typically cool and rainy but we managed to avoid most of the rain.

Recommended: Yes

The ship, crew, and activities/entertainment were wonderful. Our only disruption was missing the visit to the Shetland Islands because of weather conditions but we got an extra day in Bergen.

Viking World Cruise --Perfect for a King & Queen

May

Pros: Attention to Detail in Every Aspect. Genuine warmth & attentiveness, Crew made you feel like Royalty the minute you step on board until the end, amazingly CLEAN, Availibility of the officers was unbelieveable!! Food was tremendous...in presentation and taste and variety.

Cons: The ship's AC was run too cold.

Recommended: Yes

We were treated like family and at the end of 4 months, we FELT like family too! While the destinations were undeniably magical, what truly elevated the experience was the phenomenal service we received aboard our magnificent ship. Every encounter, from the attentive crew remembering our names from the very first day, waitstaff remembering our favorite drinks to the housekeeping staff leaving our room sparkling clean every day, was a testament to their dedication. The crew's thoughtfulness and acts of kindness and helpfulness truly went above and beyond. We disembarked feeling not just well-rested and exhilarated, but also deeply touched by the incredible hospitality we received.

Top Notch Viking Ocean Cruise

October

Pros: The amaxing Viking luxeries and staff

Cons: A few dissapointing ports of call

Recommended: Yes

This was our first Viking Ocean Cruise, having experienced a river cruise a few years ago. The Viking experience was top notch; the staff goes out of their way to please, to get to know you, to thank you, to be super friendly. The food was certainly not typical "cruise food." The buffet had many, many options and the restaurants were outstanding. Our biggest disappointment were the ports of call, some of which require a long (60-90 minutes) commute to the destination city (Rome, Venice) then of course the same return time, which eats up a lot of your time. The smaller, lesser known ports were quaint but really not much to see except the local cathedrals.

Great Trip

March

Pros: Staff, Atmosphere, amenities

Cons: Fellow travelers, excursions

Recommended: Yes

Our first trip with Viking. Second cruise ever - we were married while on our first cruise 20 years ago. This trip was our anniversary gift to each other! We loved the staff and all that they added to our voyage. From airport transfers to food/drink service, from housekeeping to spa services, everything the staff provided was top notch. Weather was a bit disappointing for part of our journey, but that's not a knock on anyone. The shore excursions were a bit too crowded for our taste and felt like a Jr. High field trip at times. While ashore, our fellow travelers' inability to keep up or follow directions was a bit frustrating. The QV gizmos were convenient, but cumbersome at times.

Viking Sky Mediterranean Antiquities trip

February

Pros: Viking Sky is an exceptional ship with wonderful accommodations and staff and service. The included country tours gave good snapshots of cities and countrysides. The additionsl tours were more expansive and specially geared for select interests. All in all we enjoyed the tours with the knowledgeable tour guides. After the tours we were able to enjoy the decks, swimming pools and the sauna rooms/thermal pools. Of course the food was great and service exceptional! Entertainment was plentiful and geared toward anyone's taste since there were so many venues. We felt safe with covid testing and contact tracing. All in all it was a great experience.

Cons: The only disappointment was that no free time to explore was allowed on the tours. We realize that due to covid situation control was necessary but we were all capable adults and could have found our way to a designated spot after an hour or so to be escorted back to the ship. In the future Viking should indicate if free time is allowed in the narrative regarding tour amenities. I felt a little cheated not being able to wander through some of the streets and shops and do a little exploring in these beautiful cities.

Recommended: Yes

I have no additional comments other than we had a wonderful time and hope that covid restrictions go away or at least are loosened in the future.

Awesome Ship!

February

Pros: Lovely ship, immaculate cabins, friendly & competent crew, excellent dining options

Cons:

Recommended: Yes

This is our 2nd Viking Ocean cruise and it matched the same excellence as our first aboard sister ship Viking Sun. We are fans of the "Viking Business Model" of small elegant ships, adults only, complimentary beer/wine, complimentary tour in every port, no casinos, no photographers... you get the idea. That isn't to say we don't have fun-- the stage shows are excellent and the crew hosts great pool-deck parties with dancing, shots of aquavit, tequila, etc.

British Isles Explorer

September

Pros: Pleasantly surprised at the experience: beautiful ship, great food, and service. Loved the pools and most excursions.

Cons: Some excursions spent too much bus time; needed more than a few photo ops.

Recommended: Yes

Some excursions gave too much free time at certain venues with not enough to do in the area. Local guides were the best. Ship entertainment was great.

Premium level cruising

September

Pros: Too many to list: excellent service by all employees, fantastic food, extremely clean and modern ship with amazing spa amenities, beautiful year round pool with dome cover

Cons: Absolutely no complaints!

Recommended: Yes

Our British Isles cruise took us to wonderful places. Least favorite was Dublin and Liverpool but even those were still interesting and good experiences. It probably helped that the weather was just about perfect every port.

December

Pros: Food...Staff...Service

A Cruise to Remember

August

Pros: Fantastic crew, well organized, delicious food, perfect size ship which never felt crowded and great excursions

Cons: Would like to have had more time to explore some of the ports of call.

Recommended: Yes

This being our first ocean cruise, it couldn’t have been much better. The size and amenities of the Viking Sky were perfect. We never felt crowded or had to wait for anything. I can’t say enough about the wonderful crew, who bent over backwards to make our time onboard unforgettable. The ports of call were everything we expected and more. We wish we had more time to explore more of Stavanger, Norway and Gdansk, Poland. I would highly recommend (and have) Viking to all my friends.

Viking sky

January

Pros: Excellent service food exercusions

Cons: Could have more on ship experiences for sea days

Recommended: Yes

This is an excellent cruise. One thing that needs big improvement is when they do airlines they dropped us off at airport at a check in area that was a disaster. Lines and lines of waiting. Would have preferred to be dropped off at regular check in not in the basement with many bus loads of people.

A beautiful ship, but...

December

Pros: Accommodating staff, adult activities and entertainment, excellent dining.

Cons: Not for the wheelchair bound, many days at sea.

Recommended: Yes

While the staff did everything they could to accommodate my wheelchair-bound wife, tight doorways, stepped gangways and tender usage, as well as lack of grab bars made the cruise less enjoyable for both of us. Although there were few opportunities for my wife to leave the ship and positively no wheelchair accessible excursions offered, we still managed to take in the entertainment and activities aboard the ship, as well as way too much of the fine food available on board. We won't book another cruise until she is no longer wheelchair-bound, but when that happens, we will definitely be booking with Viking.

Empires of the Mediterranean March 2017

March

Pros: Beautiful ship with large bathrooms and sufficient drawer/closet space. Enthusiastic multinational crew.

Cons: Entertainment and shows were mediocre

Recommended: Yes

The ship was about a month old and was beautifully designed. Although full it never felt crowded. The use of technology was evident in the free wifi, live TV with CNN, Fox, etc. and updated port talks, schedules and menus available on the cabin screen. The food was good, and any service issues were quickly resolved. The entertainment was on par with college level singers and dancers, but since we were in port everyday with 8 am starts, we didn't take too much advantage of the lounges, spa, stores or nightclub. This cruise visited Greece, Montenegro, Croatia and Sloveia, and we were fortunate to have sunny weather and be the only ship in port every day. The excursion quality was good and well organized, whether included or additional charge.
