Panama Canal Cruise

January

Pros: Ship size was just right, crew was excellent, excursions and events on board very entertaining

Cons: Would have liked longer excursions.

Recommended: Yes

We had a great time on this 15 day cruise. Excursions were spaced out just right. Cannot say enough good things about the crew. Very attentive, knowledgeable and fun to be around. Discovered art auctions for the first time thru Park West Gallery. Food, including the buffet was very good. Locals on all excursions were extremely friendly and welcoming.

Good, bad, sad

January

Pros: people, excursions, food, shows

Cons: Not enough fun/good activities.

Recommended: No

?***Chef Fredy made my eating experience very enjoyable. I have celiac and need to eat gluten free. He helped me find food from ?day one.? Every meal he would walk me around and let me know what I could safely eat. I didn't get sick once.?That's a ?#1?0 in my books. Also, our Stateroom Steward, Jocelyn, was fantastic. She took care of us all day everyday. ?Sadly, I was surprised to see how few ?fun activities were offered during the day. I'm not a big shopper and I don't drink. By the fourth day I was so bored. On Day 8 I bought internet access so I had things to do. This was our first ever cruise. We have saved up for ?YEARS to afford this cruise. We were very let down. In talking with other passengers they had the same feeling.? Most of them were experienced cruisers. Many told us we need to take a?t least one more cruise? to see what a good cruise is.? This experience was not what I should judge a cruise on. I'm not a complaining person but this was bad? and I'm very sad. I don't think we will ever be able to afford to take another one.

Princess Cruise aboard Island Princess 12/22/2024

December

Pros: Professional and pleasant crew, clean suite, good excursions, ease of disinbarkment

Cons: Room service menus could be improved and food delivered when delivered was not even warm

Recommended: Yes

I would like to give a special thanks to ALEN OUR ROON STEWART WHO DID A GREAT JOB AND TO Kyna Johnson in GUEST Services who went beyond our expectations in trying to assist us with a plan for Aruba. In addition our expectation when planning the trip was to do most of our dinners in the speciality restaurants but on the third day we went to the main dinning room the Bordeaux and found the staff to be outstanding and withe the exception of one night which I will comment on below we dined every night in the Bordeaux.Iwould like to especially thank Ricardo the supervisor,Kerwin waiter, and Subha jr waiter for making our dinning experience a total pleasure. I did mention above that on one evening we did decide to dine at the Crab Shack and frankly it was a total waste of time and money. The service was sub par the food was just ok . One last thing it might be a good idea is to remove Trinidad from a port stop.If I desire to get robbed or killed there a several places I can go to in the world but I would no do it for a vacation.

Island Princess

November

Pros: Warm and inviting staff, Crooners Lounge with delightful staff and great drinks, exemplary food in both the main dining room and Horizons Court (buffett), easy boarding and unboarding, good WiFi, relaxing atmosphere

Cons: No International Cafe, something we really enjoyed on the Emerald Princess. In my review for Princess, I suggested that the smokers lounge near Crooners, in a prime spot, be changed to an International Cafe.

Recommended: Yes

I gave the ship four instead of five stars only because of the lack of an International Cafe, with its delicious pastries and great cappacino and other coffees. Otherwise, the ship was staffed by friendly and professional employess and had the relaxing atmosphere that we prefer. All the musicians in the Crooners Lounge and the in central area of the ship were quite good and enjoyable as well. We look forward to traveling again on Princess. (Note below: We did not participate in any activities, but a score is required.)

It was an exciting.

July

Pros: Staterooms are clean and fresh smelling.

Cons: Wi-Fi bit expensive

Recommended: Yes

All the crews were very kind, helpful and happy in all dining areas. But Putu Dedi Setiawan, our stateroom keeper and Made Wastiana from the formal Dining (5th floor) made our dining experience a memorable and enjoyable one. Cheers to both of them and wish all the best specially the up coming father Tutu and his wife..keep up the good work..

World Cruise 2024

April

Pros: Great embarkation process, destination information, CREW, and activities

Cons: Small ship with limited space for food and entertainment venues

Recommended: Yes

The CREW was consistently pleasant, helpful, and a joy to be around. Princess does a GREAT job of organizing the movement of people. Getting on-board took less than 15 minutes, to sign in, get my medalion, and be in my cabin. Shore tours are also well organized and available for people with handicaps. Presentations (Called "Enrichment") are TERRIFIC, if often a bit early for late sleepers. They cover any amount of subjects including shore destinations, history of the region being cruised, general information about bunches of things (aviation, art, British Royalty, Rock & Roll, photography, etc.). The ship is small and that doesn't allow for numerous food venues. Especially lacking is the International Cafe, which is so popular on other Princess ships. The theater is small and access is limited to two aisles, meaning that the bulk of guests must squeeze through in front of other people to get to seats.

Octoberfest

October

Pros: Captain did a great job of keeping the ship out of the stormy weather. We were thrilled with the extra effort by the Excursions staff to secure a trip to Normandy

Cons: the weather couldn't be helped, but it was rainy and unable to visit every port.

Recommended: Yes

Special kudos to the excursion staff that enabled us to go on the Normandy trip when our Viator trip was canceled that morning. They made special phone calls, and even arranged for a van ride to catch us up with the departed bus. The Normandy excursion was the highlight of the whole cruise, and the luncheon was a delicious surprise.

My cruize with Island Princess from Copenhagen, Denmark to London England...via Iceland

July

Pros: This was a fantastic voyage. It exceeded all my expectations and I was very happy I went on this cruize. I also like the size of this smaller Princess Ship. These big gigantic ones overwhelm with way too many passengers.

Cons: None it is a beautiful ship and cruize was excellent

Phenomenal trip

July

Pros: Exceptional service, friendly staff, zero complaints from us

Cons: None

Recommended: Yes

We sailed on the Island Princess for 14 days on a Baltic Sea excursion. The service was exceptional, as usual for Princess. The ship was only about 60% booked presumably due to COVID concerns, so it was a little quiet but that only made service easier and getting into shows etc. all the easier. We have zero complaints and would highly recommend this trip and Princess. Of note to other travelers, this was an older crowd of passengers which was fine for us, but it is a consideration if bringing kids - there won't be many young companions onboard.

We love this ship

November

Pros: Great size and has the ambiance of a classic ship

Cons: No wine bar or patisserie like on the bigger ships

Recommended: Yes

This was our second cruise on Island Princess and we loved it! I love the classic woods and muted colors which reminds me of the glamorous ships of previous times. I also like the size of the ship--like the three bears--just right! The service was very good, our balcony was large and mostly shaded all day. The internet worked very well and the food was quite good although we were disappointed in Sabatini's. We would like a wine bar and a patisserie that provides more than coffee. We miss the sandwiches and pastries found in the one on the larger ships.

Island Princess is ok, go with low expectations

February

Pros: Itinerary

Cons: Variety of activities, service

Recommended: No

We did the Panama Canal and Caribbean 10 day cruise out of Ft Lauderdale. The itinerary was great. Service was mediocre, it was slow and many times it felt like you were a nuisance to the crew. There was not a large variety of activities, unless you want to shop or participate in some form of gambling. Seems like they expect passengers to just be at the pool, baking in the sun or drinking alcohol. There is no movie theater, just on TV or a few times on the big screen on lido deck. The comedians were funny. There was limited stage shows and they aren't bad, but more music based. Voice of the Ocean is horrible. Balcony room was good size, but showers are small. Food quality was average, as well the selection. Pizza was really good. There is no fresh food option in the atrium like on Star Princess nor was there a terrace pool.

Love the Princess Line

January

Pros: Entertainment and food

Cons:

Recommended: Yes

The Island Princess is smaller than many ships, but we were able to go through the Panama Canal locks which was amazing. Also, we met more people than we would have on a larger ship. Most of the passengers were retirees, maybe because the cruise was 10 days long during the school year. The entertainment was outstanding!

Amazing Alaska Vacation

September

Pros: Club Class, our steward, views from balcony, Princess's processes for transfers/excursions/travel were excellent, extremely confortable beds, dining room food and dining staff, Denali Tundra Tour.

Cons: Ship is showing some age, showers too short/small, bar staff service was inconsistent, Bayou Cafe and Crooners are understaffed.

Recommended: Yes

We were fortunate to have exceptional weather in Alaska during our stay, allowing us to see Northern Lights and Denali multiple times. Both of the lodges in Denali were well placed for excursions and comfortable. We booked Club Class mini-suites and would do it again for the ammenities, staff, food and service. The new beds in Club Class are wonderful! The Island Princess is showing her age but still provided all the comforts you would expect. The dining rooms were beautiful, had great food and great staff - highly recommend them over the buffet when possible. The Wheelhouse is the best lounge on the ship for drinks, staff and entertainment. I would encourage Princess to update the bathrooms when possible because the tub is too narrow and the shower is too low.

80th birthday cruise

September

Pros: Great service all around, very clean in most areas, good variety of food and accommodating for food allergies

Cons: outdoor movie screen too loud and going all day and night: sound assault; pools too cold

Recommended: Yes

Very happy with the organization and speed of check-in in Vancouver! Enjoyed the cruise very much and the special birthday dessert for Mom. Enough already with the spa/artwork/etc. upselling and junky jewelry "deals". Also, too bad that the promenade deck doesn't allow you to go completely around the stern: you have to walk through the interior to keep going! My mother was agitated when she couldn't find cribbage pegs in the library to play her favorite card game (not a drinker, gambler, or stage show fan).

Cons:

There were a lot of people on board that had colds and coughs. While everyone seemed good about washing their hands and using the hand sanitizer we never once saw any crew member wiping off the the hand rails on the stair way or the railings in front of the elevator. Would seem to me that this might be a good step in helping to prevent the spread of germs. This was our fourth cruise with Princess and again we found that all the crew members were friendly and very helpful. We did miss the television channel that continually ran The Love Boat shows

Pros: Very impressive and worthwhile place to see and experience a crossing

Cons: One cannot begin to consume that much food!!!

Recommended: Yes

Everything was first class, even tho the ship itself is starting to show its age. The evening entertainment was spectacular as was the food and service. We had one disappointing shore excursion but the remainder of the trip was relaxing and enjoyable. Your bus service was much appreciated as there was no transferring to airports, etc. However, I think the bus trip itself could have used some excitement or entertainment. How about a movie while enroute? Or some games...anything to break the monotony of watching cactus and wind farms. (Just a suggestion.)

ALASKA, Cruise and Land Vacation Sept. 2016

September

Pros: Everything about the ship was excellent. Cabins, Food, Entertainment, and constant extra activities kept us constantly busy. The towns we stopped in were most interesting, as were the side tours. We must have seen 30 or 40 whales on the Whale Watch. The Tundra Tour in Denali Nat. Park was amazing. Two Bears, & lots of Moose, Carribu, Bald Eagles, and other birds and small local animals. One of my favorites was when the paddle wheel Riverboat stopped for about 30 minutes at the late Susan Butcher's sled dog training center, and her husband David Monson explained the whole operation to us plus had an 8 dog team run pulling an ATV (no snow yet) for about two miles.

Cons: Hotels on land were nice, but the rooms and baths were kind of cramped. Food was good though.

Recommended: Yes

I think I said enough above. I'd highly recommend this trip to everyone who would like to see and hear all about the fabulous outback of the real North country. The beauty of Alaska is beyond belief. Monica, you could not have put together a better trip package for us. Thank You, Mike Wallace.

Vancouver to San Francisco - Some Good, Some Bad

September

Pros: Activites, Main Dining Room staff,

Cons: Disembarkation

Recommended: Yes

The disembarkation was a nightmare. There did not seem to be any organization or thought on how to get people off the ship in an orderly manner. They gave you a time to leave the ship and ours was over two hours late. Older people were asked to sit on stools with no backs for several hours. They should have been taken to the theatre where the could have sat comfortably until called. We made a reservation at the Bayou Café for 9 people and it was accepted. We got there and they basically ignored us. We kept asking about our table and eventually left after waiting over 45 minutes. The staff at our table in the Provance Dining Room was superb. The were cheerful, helpful, professional and fun! Bene and Luis should be commended.

Alaska Cruise and Land Tour

September

Pros: Almost everything...food, staff, service, land excursions, glacier viewing.

Cons: No ESPN or sports channels/laundry facilities needed repair/too many sales pitches

Recommended: Yes

Pros: Overall it was great. Of special note are the staff. They were wonderful. Can't remember all the names. Jose was our steward and he was excellent. Everyone else went above and beyond. It was a pleasure. Also, it was nice to have no smoking gambling night...we don't gamble much...but ventured in when there was no smoking. Pro: Organization...Princess has it down....organized from boarding, disembarking, land tours, etc. It was great. Cons: No College football coverage. My husband loves football and the seasoned opened while we were on the cruise. It would have been good to have ESPN, etc. Laundry: It was wonderful to have it on each deck. However, the coin machine on Aloha deck did not work. Then, when I went downstairs to the other one...my card did not work. The first time my steward (Jose) brought us tokens. The second time I had to call guest services who seems a little annoyed that I needed them and said I would have to come down to get them. I told them that they had been delivered last time...so they said they would. I never received them. Annoying but not a major deal. Sales, Sales, Sales...you know...I don't need any jewelry, any perfume, clothes, etc. And, the massage that I got was wonderful...but I did not need a sales pitch there either. I understand you need to make money but the pressure to buy, buy, buy, buy, buy was a little much. I would rather have more educational things or even dorky things that you used to have (so I have heard)...classes in napkin folding is the one I remember...which is a little dorky...but would be fun. I would also like more info on how you manage to make it all work......from food, to supplying the ship, turning it around in one day (we get off and another group gets on), refueling, etc. I missed the kitchen tour...was having a massage. Mixed: We signed up for fixed dining..at 5:15. It was just too early and so we only made it once. I should have signed up for anytime dining. We did not even check to see if we could have changed...probably could have...just didn't think about it. Mixed: Entertainment. The naturalist was good......would have liked more of that....

Superb

September

Pros: Impressively splendid, everyone helpful and friendly, lovely balcony view.

Cons: soft bed - when we like a firm bed.

Recommended: Yes

Our entire trip from beginning to end was outstanding. It was nice to see how things were done o time, when scheduled. Enjoyed all the special meals we had and 1st dining was perfect time of dining for us - All meals and desserts were extraordinary. The entertainment was good and family friendly which makes it very nice to attend. Really enjoyed Libby's talk about how she became the first women to win the Alaskan Dog Race. In fact we enjoyed all the educational talks and learned a lot. Everything was well planned out and every moment enjoyed. We have been on many other cruises and would rate Princess the best - they take care of you 1st class from beginning to end. You will not go wrong booking with them.

Alaskan Cruise

August

Pros: Organization of baggage transfers from Airport to ship and back were great.

Cons: Were advised that we qualified for bypassing customs after depareture of ship and were asked to fill-out declaration card but when getting to Airport, we still had to go through customs like everyone else and experienced long lines and waiting times. Shows on the ship were short(30-40 minutes) and were only average.

Awesome

August

Pros: Beautiful ship, awesome amenities, wonderful staff, comfortable cabin, numerous menu options, fun activities, adequate shopping opportunities, many tour choices.

Cons: REALLY small shower!!!

Recommended: Yes

Rain and fog everyday, but a welcome change from Arizona. Would love to have seen a whale, and although some passengers did, we were always on the 'wrong' side of the ship. Our cabin attendant, Constantine, was friendly, accommodating, and readily available, even providing a few extras. Alaska is absolutely unparalleled in beauty. We were surprised at the number of islands along our trip, and all the villages scattered among the trees were enchanting. We would go back in a heartbeat!

Alaskan land and cruise tour

June

Pros: Staff were great on ship. Luggage and scooter taken care of always. Had a great cruise and land tour. Food was very good.

Cons: No plug-ins in bathroom. Sat over wing during flight from Minneapolis to Vancover. To far back on the ship. Couldn't hear announcements in your room on ship.

Recommended: Yes

Connections of flights were great. Hotel rooms were very good, except the room in Vancover the carpet was old and worn. Our room in Denali had paint peeling off the ceiling and the pillow case had blood all over it and the front desk wasn't concerned about it at all. Other than that everyone was very accommodating.

Island Princess

January

Pros: Wonderful Crew and ship! Loved the fact that the Gym opened at 5am!

Cons: None

Recommended: Yes

We have cruised with Princess for years (4 cruises in the last year!) the ship is smaller than we are used to because of it's Panamax designation (built to be the largest which can pass through the Panama Canal) so, for us, it took a little time to find places.

Great holiday trip on the Island Princess

December

Pros: Very friendly crew, lots of holiday touches

Cons: Ship is getting a little old and needs some refurbishing

Recommended: Yes

We met some wonderful people, both crew and passengers. The Christmas celebration was filled with fun and warmth. Santa made a special appearance on Christmas eve by climbing down a smoke stack. New Years was marred by some bad weather but all the celebrations were quickly moved indoors and enjoyed by many. Had a great time!

Elegant ship

December

Pros: Outstanding crew, following the example of an outgoing captain. Excellent food in the Horizon Court and the free restaurants.

Cons: Recent redesign missed the mark. Maintenance leaves a lot to be desired. Internet was plain awful.

Recommended: Yes

The ship had to have been one of the most comfortable in the fleet, until they redesigned it to add more cabins. Venues seem to be out of place now, and the gym has no more windows, making it feel like a dungeon. Unless one pays for use of the Sanctuary, there is no way look out over the stern of the ship, which is a big negative while going through the Panama Canal locks. The theater is the only large meeting place, which makes the ship feel crammed, especially during disembarkation when everyone has to be out of their cabins. The ship must have left the last dry dock in a hurry, because it seems to have pervasive problems with disconnected plumbing. There were quite a few hallways along the cabins, where there was a strong sewage odor. Water was leaking out from under the cabinets in our suite, leaving a foul odor and forcing us to leave the balcony door open 24/7. Foul-smelling liquid was also dripping, sometimes gushing, from the ceilings in the hallways. The first thing one saw after logging onto the internet was Google, Italy. Any keyword search went directly to Wikipedia, Italy. It took several minutes to change the language to English. The Indian IT guys were clueless ... that Italian thing must have been going on for a while. The food quality and selection at Sabatini's was not nearly as good as the ones at the restaurants or at the Horizon Court. Each day, the same boring Sabatini menu, limited pastry selection, and watery Cappuccinos, while the Horizon Court served a cornucopia of goodies, including Dresden Christmas Stollen ... Wow! The same goes for the Platinum/Elite cocktail hour. There was a better one for all of the passengers at 3 PM. So, no need to upgrade for the alleged benefits. The itinerary was disappointing. Puntarenas and San Juan del Sur were miserable abominations. Between Costa Rica and LA were two stops and five sea days. They should stop in Puerto Vallarta and bypass open-air-landfill Nicaragua. The greatest asset of the ship was the Captain. He was the most outgoing officer we have yet encountered. He came by the dinner tables twice and made himself visible throughout the cruise. His communication skills were second to none.

Cons: The ship needs rehab

Very Nice Itinerary

September

Pros: excellent captain and room steward

Cons: noise from staff on level below our stateroom in early morning

enjoyed cruise itinerary because Alaska is a beautiful and somewhat exotic location. staff was very helpful, and there was a good ratio of staff to passengers. this was the first time I was in Alaska, and would recommend the land portion as an add-on to simply cruising because it provides a well-rounded picture of Alaska.

Good, but not great

June

Pros: Service throughout ship.

Cons: Eleven hour very uncomfortable train ride from Whittier, AK to Denali

Recommended: No

Food available almost all the time was adequate, while food in regular dining rooms was much better. But tiny "king crab" legs looked more like crab fingers. Service was excellent throughout (except the one time we ordered room service and hot water was brought without the tea bags). Very enjoyable port calls. Princess' logistics organization was outstanding. Billing was less than adequate: manager assured me that an incorrect double charge would be removed w/i a day; it wasn't (and was on my final checkout statement). That charge was small, but convinced me to not sail with Princess again. Also, we were a party of eight and five of us got somewhat ill after a very long train ride from the ship to the Princess lodging during which everyone on the train car complained about how very cold it was.

15 Day Panama Canal Cruise

April

Pros: Food was great & we had a wonderful female room steward.

Cons: Charge too much for tours off the ship & drink specials were $7.95, should be less & they would sell more.

Recommended: No

The port lectures were done by a man named Bill & he was very informative. We took some tours on our own & 2 off the ship & we were happy with all of them. The day going thru the canal was spectacular & Bill talked from 6:00 A.M to 6:00 P.M. It was wonderful. Wish we could have seen the monkeys but we did see lots of crocodiles on the river cruise in Costa Rica..We originally signed up for 5:45 dining with a table of 6 but when we arrived in the dining room they had us at a table of 10 & the time had changed to 5:15 P.M. which we couldn't change but they did change us to a table of 6 & we enjoyed our other 2 couples very much but we found 5:15 a little too early. All in all, a wonderful cruise.
