2027 Shanghai Local Highlights Option - 8 Hours - Provided by A&K Hong Kong
Guests will enjoy a pre-arranged sightseeing itinerary with a Private Car and Guide to explore the following destination highlights.
No visit to Shanghai is considered complete without exploring the labyrinth of lanes simply called, "Old Town". This is the heart of Shanghai and where it all began. Prior to the arrival of the foreign forces that staked their various claims to the city in 1842, the Old Town area was the epicenter of commercial life in Shanghai.
Led by your local guide explore this vibrant part of the city that still beats with the heart of commerce. The circuitous lanes and alleys are fronted by shops, market stalls, restaurants, and sightseeing attractions that teem with visitors - organized chaos at its finest. The Old Town is built around the elegant Yu Garden, a Ming dynasty (1368 - 1644) period garden that was built by a wealthy official for his parents.
After a lunch reservation at a local restaurant (payable locally), enjoy a walk along the historic Bund, the riverfront promenade derived from the Anglo-Indian word meaning a “quay” or “embankment”. The Bund affords visitors a timely view on the Shanghai story: the historic sweep of buildings that recall the commercial power of the foreign treaty port era and on the Pudong side of the river, the promise of tomorrow with Shanghai’s stunning office towers and commercial buildings. Take a trip to the top when you visit the observation deck of the new Shanghai Tower (632 metres or 2,073 feet), the second tallest building on earth. From the observation deck’s platform at 562 metres (1,843 feet) you can take in the sweeping panorama of today’s Shanghai.
